the curve of the earth

first post of 2008. here we go.

new years was lame as usual. i cant stand it, i could care less that we are a year further away from the past and a year closer to the end of the world. i guess the only good thing about it is spending time with your friends, but we do that every weekend anyway.

january 1st, 2008 consisted of waking up at 7am, then spending 11 hours in the van driving to london, ontario. our gas lines froze, we stalled, we slipped, we got gas line antifreeze, we drove on. we almost got clipped by a huge bus, which, ironically, was involved in a 7-10 car pill-up down the road. those buses drive way to crazy in storms. the show went well, the whippet lounge is quite the venue. with only one lightbulb, it was pretty dark, not to mention that the heating hasnt been on in five years, or so ive heard. in the end, both bands played well. we went back to the dudebox, the normal hang out for barn burner when we are in london. first time for marc, jamie, julien and adam to meet chance. imagine about 10 dudes in a kitchen drinking beer and telling really stupid stories. chugged a bunch of whiskey and slammed our fists on the kitchen island. the night ended with nick ball drinking some jim bean with a banana at the bottom of it and puking it back into his mouth.

january 2nd, 2008 started off surprisingly well. no hang over, no feeling like shit. me, adam and marc ate at a chinese buffet while the other dudes went to talbot square family restaurant where the staff is literally 400 years old combined and only about 5 people work there. the show that night was in the beautiful town of niagara falls. we played in a tiny cafe called bad vuguum. the owner gave adam some weed (surprise, surprise) and the show went really well. good turnout, lots of good vibes. after the show, we went to dan and ian of attack in black's house. it was a beautiful house and ian made us a tasty meal. proceeded to drink a ton of beer and stay up all night with jamie and ball. ended up running around naked, much to the joy of nick ball, who oddly enough loves to get naked with his bro's. we gave marc a naked elbow drop. possible pictures to come.

january 3rd, 2008 was the day that we were slated to play in toronto. we drove in early because a lot of us had to get some stuff done. scott had a meeting for his label so we split ways. we walked around for a bit but it was blisteringly cold so ball called up one of his notorious "best buddies". we went to this really nice townhouse, filled with jock dudes. it was definitely weird. chevy, julien and adam took some of the gnarliest dumps ive ever smelled in my life. we went to the venue which was an african restaurant just on the outskirts of kensington market. they spoke french and were watching tv5. african art adorned the walls. toronto always has some bizarre venues. regardless, the show was packed, everyone played well. it was an absolute gong show. sara lutz showed up and joyed the world with her tales of mischief. julien proceeded to get hammered, giving away me and jamie's beer in the process to van full of beer-less girls. after asking them if he could watch them pee, he was ready to head back to the forgiving arms of lutz. while hailing a cab to go back home with her, jamie is screaming at the top of his lungs "DEGEULLASSE!!!!!!!" wrath was there and surprisingly enough, was acting pretty normal. while all this is going on, she busts out a bottle of wine and a 40 of vodka. we finished loading the trailer, which took way too long, and headed over to ronnie's pub. mikey and liam of the cancer bats showed up and we partied until the bar closed. marc managed to break a table and meet a girl he hasnt seen since junior high school. on the walk back to our friend chaz's place, shit started to hit the fan with wrath. she wouldnt go home even though she lived two seconds away from the bar. it started as a normal argument, but then turned into a full blown shouting match wich was getting pretty crazy. during the hight of the argument, marc yells out "THATS IT, IM GOING TO PISS ON HER!" but doesnt do it because at this point wrath is crying. i have never seen someone trying so desperately to come and hang out. went back to chaz's and partied until the sun came up.

january 4th, 2008 started off with a drive over to sneaky dee's for some lunch. we left and headed for guelph with a ninth member in the van, the one and only CJ. he bought us a flat and we proceeded to get shitty before playing a pretty good show at the shadow. i went to take a shit and saw a nice cockroach on the floor. thats the shadow for you. went back to nick ball's after the show and adam was in awe at all the hockey sticks that ball's dad has from the games greatest stars. some funny pictures were taken and ill try to post them soon. ate chicken wings and drank a unch of beer and fell asleep to the wonderful snores of jamie, cj and scott.

january 5th, 2008 saw us rising and eating bacon sandwiches and talking with ball's dad. we started the long drive up to sudbury. got there with no problems and went and ate supper at marc's parents house. played an awesome show and unfortunetly ran into some problems after the show with the van. the lights kept switching on and off and apparently we missed a pretty sweet party. oh well. instead i got a really good sleep, something i was due for.

january 6th, 2008 was the longest drive except for that first one. everything was going fine until we got pulled over by the cops because of the lights flickering again. everyone panicked because we had 8 in the van, about ten million beer cans, 5 hits of acid and about half the people in the van were stoned, including marc who was riding shotgun. as fate would have it, the cop came up on marc's side, which was a good thing because the driver's side window doesnt go down anymore. the cop was nice and wished us luck. we had to hook up some fog lights at a canadian tire in deep river. i dont know how someone can live in a town with only 2500 people. it must be so suffocating, i would go crazy. i like to be alone, but not that alone. we made it to ottawajust in time for the show, which, again, went really well. it was a good way to cap off the tour.

on the drive home, the transmission decided to not shift out of first gear anymore. i believe it might be time to get a new one, or maybe say goodbye to chubbz, which would make me cry. i think that pulling all that weight probably put a lot of stress on it.

all in all it was a great week. awesome shows, a lot of new and old friends and a lot of laughs.
